Under 350 dollars, or 300 euro, a watch stops being a fashion accessory and starts being a tool you can rely on. What this budget actually buys
At this level the money goes into the parts you use every day. The case and the bracelet are 316L stainless steel, the same grade used for surgical instruments. The movement comes from a family that has been built in very large numbers, so it is well understood and any watchmaker can service it. The clasp holds.
The step up from cheaper watches is mostly in three places. Water resistance goes from splash proof to 10 ATM, which covers swimming. The glass goes from plain mineral to sapphire coated crystal, and on some models to sapphire with an anti reflective coating.
What it does not buy
Knowing the limits is what makes the rest believable.
- No Swiss manufacture calibre. An in house movement from a Swiss manufacture does not exist at this price.
- No solid gold. Gold at this level is 18k plating over steel. Plating is a layer, and a layer wears with time.
- No chronometer certificate and no promise of a fixed accuracy figure.
- No resale value. Buy a watch in this range to wear it, not as an investment.

The same watch, with the case and bracelet 18k gold plated over 316L stainless steel. ZOLTEN Gold has a gold dial, ZOLTEN Rose Gold pairs rose gold with a black dial. Movement, 42 mm size, 10 ATM and the butterfly clasp stay the same.
