Battery Disposal

Some of our products contain a battery. This applies to our quartz watches, which are supplied with a built in button cell. Our automatic watches run without a battery.

Your obligation as an end user

Batteries must not be thrown into household waste. As an end user you are legally required to return used batteries. You can hand them in at municipal collection points, at any shop that sells batteries of the same type, or send them to us.

Which batteries we take back

We take back used device batteries of the type we sell, meaning the small button cells fitted in watches. We cannot accept vehicle or car batteries, industrial batteries, or packs from e-bikes and power tools, because we do not sell them. Those belong at a municipal collection point or at a shop that sells that type.

How to return a cell

Two ways:

  • Hand it in at a municipal collection point or at any shop selling the same type of battery. This is the quickest route and costs you nothing.
  • Or send it to us. Tape over the contacts first so the cell cannot short circuit, and send it sufficiently stamped to the address below. We charge nothing for taking the cell back and we carry the disposal. Postage for the parcel is not included.

What the symbol means

The crossed out wheeled bin means that the battery must not be disposed of with household waste. Letters printed under the symbol name the critical substance: Pb for lead, Cd for cadmium, Hg for mercury.

Removing the cell from a watch

The button cell of a quartz watch sits inside the sealed case. It should be removed by a watchmaker or jeweller, never by forcing the case open. If you would rather not arrange this yourself, send the watch to the address above and we will remove and dispose of the cell for you.

Longer life, repair and reuse

  • Have the cell replaced by a professional rather than replacing the watch. A watch outlives many cells.
  • Ask for a new case gasket whenever the cell is changed. That is what keeps the water resistance intact.
  • If you do not wear a watch for a long time, have the cell removed. A cell left in a stored watch can leak and damage the movement.
  • A watch that no longer runs is usually a service case, not a write off. Ask us first.

Costs

The costs for collection, treatment and recycling of the batteries we place on the market are carried by us. They are not charged to you on top of the product price.
